Following Real Madrid’s third UEFA Champions League triumph in a row on Saturday, the European football season has finally reached its conclusion. Attention now turns towards next season, with the news that the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League will be shown on DAZN in Germany and Austria for the first time. DAZN has agreed to sub-license around 110 live games from the UEFA Champions League with Sky Deutschland, as well as agreeing to broadcast every game from the UEFA Europa League. Fresh from playing in his final season as a professional footballer with Arsenal, Per Mertesacker will join DAZN as a pundit to offer expert analysis on the very best action from Europe’s two leading footballing competitions.
On joining DAZN, World-Cup winner Mertesacker said, “When the talks with DAZN started, I had a very good feeling that this would be a good fit. I’ve been impressed with the work DAZN has been doing since they launched, so it’s great to get the opportunity to work with them. I’m very excited to see how we manage the new opportunities on DAZN and it’s an opportunity for me to experience something different in the world of football!”
Michael Bracher, SVP Programming at DAZN said, “We are absolutely delighted that Per is joining the DAZN family. He’s a former World Champion and was a leader and model professional on the pitch, so we are looking forward to the knowledge and opinions he will be able to gift our viewers.”
In addition to the news of Mertesacker’s signing, DAZN has supplemented his arrival with the appointment of Florian Gogel, a highly experienced television journalist. Florian joins as an Executive Producer for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. DAZN’s commentary team for the competitions will consist of Jan Platte, Marco Hagemann and Elmar Paulke – all of whom have been with DAZN for a while and are held in high regard by the fans. On the ground, DAZN will be increasing its on-site presence, with a commentary team, a reporter and the pundits all in the stadium for selected top matches.
The addition of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League will be a part of the standard €9.99 package available in Germany and Austria. DAZN also offers users a month free of charge as well as being cancellable at anytime without any fixed term contract, championing our fans first approach.
