LONDON, JUNE 15, 2017

We’re delighted to announce that DAZN has secured the exclusive rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League football in Japan from 2018/19. DAZN will become the home of every match from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup from 2018/19 to 2020/21, and be the only place that football fans in Japan can watch all the top European club teams compete for the highest European club honours.

In addition to this, DAZN has also secured the rights to UEFA Champions League games in Germany and Austria from 2018/19-2020/21 thanks to a sub-license agreement with Sky Deutschland.

Speaking about DAZN’s deal in Japan, James Rushton, CEO of DAZN said: “We are delighted to have secured the exclusive rights to the premier footballing club competitions in Europe. Japanese football fans will now be able to watch the best players in the world competing in the leading club competition at their convenience on any connected device. Since we launched last year, we have shown over 2,000 live footballing events in Japan across top leagues, cups and international matches, showing that we are the true home of football in Japan.”

DAZN continues to enhance its strong football offering across all its territories, with these latest rights joining top European leagues such as Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1, cups such as FA Cup and Copa Del Rey, plus key international fixtures, on the platform.

At the start of 2017, DAZN also became the home of Japan’s domestic competition, the J.League, and the record-breaking 10-year deal has got off to a successful start.  For the first time ever, DAZN is showing all matches from J1, J2 and J3 live meaning more fans around the country can watch their favourite teams in action.  Furthermore, through DAZN’s close partnership with J.League, production levels across all divisions have increased significantly with more cameras and more angles available than ever before. Through this improved awareness of the league and higher engagement with fans, stadium attendances have also grown in the past four months.
